I do not understand The Twitter.
I finally caved under pressure and signed up yesterday, hoping to use it as a marketing tool for my patterns and writing. So far I've posted five times and have four followers. I would have had more...except I seem to be a porn magnet. I keep getting followers with profiles that are empty except for a link, which inevitably leads to a porn site.
I think that from now on, I will simply ignore my followers.

Sad, but true of many networking sites, Twitter being one of them. The garbage many times is so annoying it outweighs the good. Private settings work, but then block one from public view which in your case is counter productive. Don't give up or click the links and things may soon settle down.
