Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Normally, I’m a solid-color knitting kind of gal. I like simple things that go easily into my wardrobe.

If I’m feeling feisty, then I whip out two-color knitting, or knit with a variegated and solid.

Sometimes I use variegated or tonal yarns, but usually those projects end up being gifts for other people. If it tells you anything, most days at work I wear a solid, plain color tee shirt, and slacks.

I’m very boring in real life.

But lately, I’ve got three projects that just have me giddy about color. Especially since I don’t have to do anything special to them to achieve the effect:

That’s right. I’m all about the rainbows right now.

I can’t divulge too many details about, since the two sweater bits pictured above are gifts for someone who may or may not read this blog.

The third project is also a gift.

For me.

It’s not technically a rainbow since it doesn’t follow the ROY G BIV color progression (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet for non-artist/science geeks)but you get the gist. It looks rainbow-y to me.

I have not taken photos of those yet, but will for next week now that they are actually starting to look like something.

These have been my bright spots in the midst of a very stressful week. I would say that I'm glad it's over, but I work all weekend so it isn't, really. Hopefully things will start looking up next week.
And since I just love the song (and the movie):

Some Beach

I don't know about you, but I am so over this whole "winter" thing. I'm sick of the rain and the snow and the cold and the fact that we haven't seen the sun for about three and a half months.

We have started to get the first fitful hints of spring. It was almost seventy the other day, and then two days later there was snow on my car when I left work. Mother nature teases us with a day or two of 50's, then it's back down to freezing. The up and down is murder on my allergies. I wish we could just pick a season and stick to it--preferably a warm one.

Lately as I'm knitting, I've been watching everything I can think of that involves beaches and sunshine: Magnum, PI; Blue Crush 2; the Single Handed Knits podcast. I'm adding Hawaii 5-0 to my list, too. And then I've been watching music videos like this one:

That is one of my all time favorite songs. If you're feeling the distinct lack of sunshine, too, here are a few more:

I have an entire playlist of these songs, which I've been playing over and over on my ride to and from work. It helps keep me from veering south and just taking off for Florida or parts unknown instead of driving through the rain to work. Of course, the fact that I don't have enough gas in my car to get to the state line is also a motivator.

Here's hoping that spring comes soon, or at the very least, that you find the lounge chair with your name on it:

P.S. Don't forget about the poll running in the sidebar!

Typespotting and shopping

I wasn't planning on blogging today, but I just got back from the bank. In their window display they had two typewriters--an Oliver 9 (much cleaner than my own), and an Underwood portable that wasn't fooling anyone about it's ability to actually type, since the type bars were sticking up at strange angles and the lid was cockeyed. Wanted to take a picture but I believe photography is frowned upon in banks so I resisted the urge (couldn't get a good shot from the front of the building, anyway).

On the way back from the bank, I had to stop at Walmart and picked up a CD for my mom. Found a Dean Martin disc for $5 and couldn't resist. She loves Dean Martin. And of course, my present to myself was 2 Fast and 2 Furious, so now I have the entire franchise on DVD, with the exception of the new one that just came out. I'm thinking there will be a marathon later tonight when my friends come over for dinner. :)
